Calangute beach is called the ‘Queen of beaches’ as its beauty cannot be compared to any of the beaches in North Goa. The peak season of this beach is from November to May. You will find tall coconut trees all over the beach which provide you shade from the burning heat of summer. The beach shacks are lined up serving delicious dishing of goan cuisine. Fresh fish dishes are also served to foreigners on demand. The people of this village are mostly fisherman and are in fishing activities. The fresh catch is so much in demand in local markets. The most tasty and common fish is Mackerals or locally called ‘bangdas’ which every goan prefers.
Calangute beach is famous for its hippies. The beach is said to be incomplete without their existence. You will find crowds of people lazing on the sands and children making the most of it building sand castles and playing in the waters. The waters of Calangute beach are said to be very medicinal and hence one will find the old taking a bath in the sea. Many water sports activities are offered to tourists like motor boats trips, parasailing etc. Locals visit Calangute beach during summer for holidaying as well as have picnics under the shade of coconut tress enjoying the cool breeze in hot summer.
Calangute can be easily reached from nearest Mapusa city which is 13 kms drive or Panaji, the capital of goa which is about 15 kms to the beach.
